What this site is for

It exists to put the uses that have a research base and the claims that have only marketing on separate sides of a line, and to grade each honestly rather than presenting the category at the level of its best-studied use. That is why every claim is placed in one of four groups, why the energy delivered is treated as the thing that decides the result, and why a regulatory clearance is reported as the safety judgement it is.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not recommend for or against any device, and it does not invite a reader toward an assessment or a consultation. It is not a booking page and it offers no service in relation to anything it describes. It does not name brands, does not quote prices, does not state an energy or a wavelength, and does not dismiss light of this kind on the grounds that its weakest claims are unsupported.

The facts kept visible

Three facts are repeated wherever they are relevant. The effect depends on the energy delivered to the tissue, so a claim that does not state it cannot be checked. Evidence belongs to a use and a measured outcome, so a finding for one use is not a finding for another. And a clearance to sell a low-risk device is a judgement about safety, not a demonstration that the device changes anything.

How the content is reviewed and corrected

Ke He, MD, Deputy Director and Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics, is the responsible physician. The evidence in this subject moves slowly and the marketing moves quickly, so the review is dated and revisited on a short cycle rather than treated as a settled text. If you find something unclear, out of date or wrong, the contact page explains how to tell us, and the correction is made to the page itself.
